PHOENIX, June 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading snack food innovator,
Inventure Foods, Inc. (NASDAQ: SNAK), expands its licensed Vidalia Brands™ snack
food lineup today with the introduction of Vidalia® Kettle Potato
Chips™, the first premium potato chip to feature the legendary sweet flavor
of real Vidalia® onions. Available in Sweet Onion and Sweet Onion
Barbecue flavors, Vidalia Kettle Potato Chips will be sold in
4.5-ounce bags with a suggested retail price of $2.39 - $2.49 per package.
To coincide with this year's onion harvest, the new sweet and savory potato
chips are currently in stores, featured alongside Vidalia onions in the fresh

"Onion flavors have traditionally fared well in the snack food aisle," said Steve Sklar, senior vice president and general manager for Inventure Foods, Inc. "However, never before has a potato chip been seasoned with Vidalia sweet onions and, I must say, the result is tremendous. The sweetness of these unique onions pairs perfectly with a moderately-salted profile and a crunchy bite. Frankly, it's one of the most distinctive flavors we've ever developed."
Vidalia Kettle Cooked Potato Chips are seasoned with a spice made from real Vidalia Sweet Onions and are made from premium American-grown potatoes cooked in better-for-you safflower and sunflower oils. The chips are gluten-free and feature zero trans fats. In addition, they are naturally 30 percent lower in saturated fat than traditional potato chips and feature 150 calories per serving.

Home » Banana-Coconut Bread from Scratch (and Quick!)
The other day, my babysitter had dug out my mom’s Banana Bread recipe to make use of some “rotten” bananas. It was yum.
A few days later, I still had some old bananas lying around and was craving some coconut. It was a Sunday spring morning, and before I headed out to clean my garage, I made this with no fuss and no muss.
Minutes later, most of it was already devoured…
Banana-Coconut Bread from Scratch
Ingredients:
- 2 cups flour (I used half whole wheat and half white)
- 1 Tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup “rotten” bananas
- ½ cup coconut
- 1 pat butter for the top (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Mix ingredients together. The batter might seem a bit dry, but don’t worry about it! [Note: the original recipe called for all sorts of sifting and sorting and mixing, but I don't have time for that, and turns out it was completely unnecessary.]
- Scoop mixture into a loaf pan and dot the top with butter (if you feel like it).
- Bake for approximately 50 minutes—or until a knife or wooden kabob stick comes out clean.
- Devour.
Next time I might try adding pineapple!

Yogurt : The Ultimate Marinade
Grilling
& Summer Delights
Grilling myth #1: Marinating meat adds both flavour and tenderness to meat. The truth is, it depends on what’s in the marinade. Some marinades can actually toughen meat. So what’s the one magic ingredient that flavoursand tenderizes better than any other?
Here’s a challenge to throw down to anyone who likes to brag about his secret barbecue sauce. When it comes to grilled perfection – it’s not just about the spice blend. Contrary to what many people think, spices don’t tenderize. There are really only three ways to tenderize meat, and only one of them also helps carry flavour deep into it.
Acids and enzymes
The squeeze of lemon, the shot of vinegar, the big glug of wine: all create an acidic marinade that can be tenderizing, as long as you don’t overdo it. Too much acid, and the protein molecules in your meat will start to toughen. Shrimp are famously easy to toughen in this way, so easy does it. (About one part acid to 4 parts oil.)
A second family of tenderizers owes its action to a specific type of enzyme. Pineapple, papaya, and ginger belong to this family, and can also add delicious flavour to a marinade. But the tenderizing action is very intense, and can actually give meat an unpleasant texture if you use too much, or marinate things for too long.
The magic of dairy
One famous chef gave two marinated chicken breasts an MRI scan: one marinade contained yogurt – the other didn’t. The scan showed that the yogurt-based marinade went deeply into the meat, while the one without yogurt hardly penetrated the surface. What’s yogurt’s secret? No one really knows, but it’s thought that the calcium in yogurt interacts with the proteins in the meat in a way that’s tenderizing. Because it’s similar in many ways to yogurt, buttermilk is also a good tenderizer. Buttermilk is what makes traditional Southern Fried Chicken so tender and succulent.
The wisdom of ages
Yogurt has been used for centuries as a tenderizing marinade in the cuisines of India, Iran, Turkey, Greece, and North Africa. If your mouth waters at the mention of these regional styles of cooking, you’re probably thinking about their characteristically fragrant and flavourful spice blends. Spices ‘bloom’ in yogurt, in the same way they do in hot oil. And since the yogurt also penetrates meat very effectively, it’s the perfect vehicle for delivering the flavour of spices into steaks, chops, fillets, poultry, and skewered meats of almost any kind. You can use virtually any mix of spices and seasonings, or take inspiration from these classic combinations:
Indian tandoori style: garam masala + saffron + ginger + garlic
Greek style: oregano + garlic + lemon
North African style: ras el hanout + harissa + paprika + preserved lemon + garlic
Indonesian satay style: Turmeric + coriander seed + lime zest + ginger + garlic + chile
Don’t forget the salt and pepper! You only need a light coating of seasoned yogurt to make a really delicious and effective marinade. Using re-sealable plastic bags allows you to maximize the contact between the marinade and the meat. Things like shrimp and delicate fillets should only marinate for about 45 minutes – other meats can take between 4 and 12 hours. It really depends on thickness and density.
And the limit to the flavour combinations you can create in the pursuit of perfecting your own signature yougurt-based marinade really only depends on your imagination.

Benefits of Red Clover
11 Amazing Benefits Of Red Clover For:
Skin, Hair And Health
When you see a red clover, you might mistake it for alfa alfa. The red clover leaves are a little greener, but these two herbs have similar flavor. Red Clover has its own place in the world of herbs.
Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) is a wild, leguminous, perennial herb that is native to the meadows of Europe, Western Asia, Africa, and now has been naturalized in many other regions of the world. The sweet tasting, tiny pink flowers of the plant are edible and used for garnishing and flavoring salads and beverages. The green leaves are alternate, trifoliate and each leaf is 15–30 mm long and 8–15 mm broad with the outer half assuming a crescent shape. The leafy greens of the herb are used to make sweet herbal tea for therapeutic purposes.

Grow a Garden with Healing Herbs and Plants
Growing Your Healing Herbs and Plants
The joy of most healing herbs and plants is that they’re easy to grow and sometimes “medicine” is as easy as making a cup of tea. And the options are endless when it comes to growing these plants. Some of them fit easily into your existing garden, or you can start a healing garden from scratch. If you don’t have a large stretch of garden space, you can tuck in little healing gardens wherever you have soil, sun and access to water. Many of these plants also do well in containers. Check with your local nursery or a seed catalog to get the lowdown on growing habits and soil needs for the variety you select. And remember to grow your plants as organically as possible. You can’t expect your body to heal when you’re giving it pesticide tea.
Herbs for Digestion
Dill (Anethum graveolens). An enthusiastic grower in most environments, dill can reach at least shoulder-high, with large, bright-yellow flower heads. Its ferny leaves and feathery flowers make it a pretty garden filler in any setting, but remember that this is a healing garden and dill also has work to do. Used throughout the ages as a remedy for babies’ colic, it is also a calming herb that settles digestion and helps promote a calm sleep. Dill seed oil is antibacterial, and chewing a few seeds after a meal will freshen your breath while it helps your digestion.
