Move will eliminate 80,000 single-use plastic water bottles each year from the environment

March 22nd, 2017 Victoria, B. C. – In recognition of World Water Day, The Butchart Gardens has removed the sale of all single-use plastic water bottles as an extension of their existing environmental practices. Instead, The Gardens is encouraging visitors to bring their own water bottles to fill at one of four double-filtered water stations located around The Gardens. Each water station boasts a drinking fountain, bottle filler and a doggy water dish.

“With this initiative we aim to drive awareness of the serious threat plastic poses to our environment, in particular single-use plastic water bottles,” said Bob Parrotta, Director of Food Services for The Butchart Gardens. “We have chosen today to announce our new direction in an effort to bring attention to World Water Day which is marked on 22nd of March every year. It’s a day to celebrate water and to prepare for how we manage water in the future.”

According to Ottawa’s Polaris Institute, bottled water is 240 – 10,000 times more expensive than tap water and the amount of oil used for the production of bottled water in 2010 was the equivalent to putting 1 million cars on the road.

Forgot your water bottle? The Butchart Gardens will have reusable ‘keepsake’ water bottles for sale for $3.95, the cost of purchasing a single-use serving.

The Butchart Gardens is an internationally renowned 55-acre (22 hectare) display garden located near Victoria, British Columbia. Created in 1904 by Jennie Butchart, and still privately owned and operated by family descendants, The Gardens has been designated a National Historic Site of Canada and welcomes over one million visitors a year.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil Labeling Made Easy And Unquestionable

Capatriti® Extra Virgin Olive Oil Earns Stringent USDA QMP Seal

- Healthy eating begins with knowledge and education on which extra virgin olive
oil (EVOO) is truly extra virgin, 100% pure.  For the millions of Americans who
buy EVOO, knowing which brand is real is now a no-brainer. Capatriti® Extra Virgin
Olive Oil, manufactured by Gourmet Factory™, has qualified for the highly coveted U. S.
Department of Agriculture (USDA) Quality Monitoring Program (QMP) seal.
Capatriti - The Simply Perfect Extra Virgin Olive Oil, now with the Stringent USDA QMP Seal
Earning this USDA QMP seal is a first step in educating consumers about choosing the
right EVOO.  The USDA Quality Monitoring Program verifies the purity and quality
of a brand's extra virgin olive oil. Capatriti® Extra Virgin Olive Oil was required to
meet meticulous program criteria in order to qualify for the seal. Upon entering the
Quality Monitoring Program for their extra virgin olive oil, Gourmet Factory™
agreed to allow the USDA to conduct unannounced visits to review and inspect
quality assurance records, randomly sample product for chemical analysis and
sensory evaluation, and verify labels on an ongoing basis.
"It's important that we, as a manufacturer and industry partner, provide consumers
with the correct information about what is pure extra virgin olive oil – the taste, the
aroma and the color," stated Themis Kangadis, Gourmet Factory CEO. "As a
family-owned company, we know that trust is the most important part of any
relationship and by earning this stringent USDA QMP designation, we are
looking at our consumers as family by increasing their knowledge and making
 their choice easier."
Confusion about EVOO is nothing new in the marketplace and is still an ongoing issue.
According to a 2010 UC Davis report, "69 percent of imported olive oils
labeled as 'extra virgin' failed to meet the international standard for extra virgin
olive oil." More recently, a 2015 report from National Consumer League
found that six out of 11 (about 55 percent) of EVOO from four major retailers
failed to meet the EVOO requirements. Impure products differ in color, taste
and scent.  The USDA QMP seal indicates that USDA samples of Capatriti
Extra Virgin Olive Oil have passed USDA quality and purity analysis.
Additionally, the USDA also reviewed the performance of the company's
production processes, quality assurance measures and record-keeping system.
Under the program, the USDA will continue to monitor Capatriti's Extra Virgin
Olive Oil, conducting unannounced plant visits to verify quality assurance
measures and test the extra virgin olive oil.
Capatriti EVOO products approved by the USDA QMP are available now for sale.
Looking to continue with label transparences, again making it easier for consumers
to know the products they are purchasing, the company is working on NON-GMO

Veronafiere-Sol&Agrifood training and networking initiative in the
olive oil sector.

Verona, 27 February 2017.  With one gold medal more than last year, Italy
improved its share of the medals to defeat Spain 12-3 in the duel between
the world's best extra virgin olive oils which ended this evening in Verona
after attracting entries by 300 samples from 10 countries (Italy, Spain,
Croatia, Slovenia, Turkey, Portugal, Germany, France, Chile and - for
the first time - Japan). The international jury of 13 highly qualified
judges from Greece, Turkey, Tunisia, Spain, Italy and Slovenia worked
for six days in "blind tastings" to assess the oils.

The Sol d'Oro Northern Hemisphere 2017 competition saw Italy
take four out of five gold medals envisaged in the award categories –
delicate, medium and intense fruit, organic and single-variety – as well
as all five silver medals and three bronze medals. Three medals, one
gold and two bronze, went to Spain.
The announcement of the winners of Veronafiere's international
competition rewarding the best extra virgin olive oils in the world took
place this afternoon in Verona during the first day of EVOO Days, the

worldwide, to guided tastings and the Evoo Bar. For the second
year, olive oils earning special mentions will be used during the finals

"The recent conversion of Veronafiere into a joint-stock equity
company was accompanied by a business plan involving 94 million
euros of investments by 2020, a significant part of which will
support the development of events, including those in the
agro-food sector. The EVOO Days dedicated to training and networking
in the olive oil sector, move precisely in this direction since they interpret
the new style we are keen to achieve for "Made in Veronafiere"
exhibitions. Patronage for this initiative by the Georgofili Academy
and the Olive and Olive Oil Academy ensures great prestige and support
for us in pursuing the aim of expanding the professional skills of
sector operators and improve company business. The EVOO Days are
especially part of the event development strategy for Sol&Agrifood
promoted by this new two-day initiative. The show held alongside Vinitaly
dedicated to quality agro-foods is enjoying continual growth: in 2016,
it attracted more than 56,000 professional visitors (more than
14,000 international from 82 countries). Now, thanks to the synergy
between Sol&Agrifood, the Sol d'Oro Northern and Southern Hemisphere
Competitions and EVOO Days, companies will have access to technical
and economic information as well as marketing strategies to make
the best use of all the business opportunities offered by the 'exhibition' tool."
