European health officials investigate after botox treatment poisons patients

Poisoning of nine German people believed to be linked to stomach procedure carried out in Istanbul

European health officials are investigating the poisoning of several people in Germany who received botox injections in Turkey, The Telegraph understands.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the national health body for Germany, has identified nine cases believed to be linked to a stomach procedure carried out in Istanbul. Reports suggest that local Turkish citizens have also been poisoned.

It’s understood that the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control is now investigating, with a health alert expected to be released imminently.

The nine German patients all underwent the same procedure in Istanbul at the end of last month, according to the RKI, which has yet to determine how the treatment went wrong.

It urged people who visited the city after February 22 and had botulinum toxin injected into their stomach wall to see a doctor or visit a hospital if they’re experiencing symptoms.
