CIBO Clinic Lap-Band Program Advantages

CIBO Clinic: an innovative idea takes shape

CIBO Clinic is the realization of Tom’s total-care vision. Staffed with top specialists in the field of laparoscopic gastric banding surgery, the unique clinic offers comprehensive support for each patient. Before undergoing the procedure, patients go through a qualification process that includes counseling and psychological assessments. After the surgery, experts work with each patient on meal planning, emotional adjustment, physical therapy and more.

Psychological counseling is a big part of the program. “The band may help control the quantity of food I eat,” says Tom, “But it’s the psychological adjustment that empowers me to control the gluttony.”

Tom understands the challenges of losing a large amount of weight – he’s still going through it. He knows about the sagging skin that happens with weight loss. That’s why he has a plastic surgeon as part of his team. He knows about the chronic conditions (and, often, the accompanying depression) many seriously overweight people suffer from. And he’s very aware of the way the people around you can react to significant weight loss; it can change the dynamics of your relationships. So the clinic offers a psychological support program for both the patient and their family.

A healthier, easier, better life.

Tom couldn’t be happier with the results of his procedure. To date, Tom has lost 260 pounds and continues to get slimmer and healthier. The out-patient surgery was simple and reversible. He recovered quickly, and was out riding his motorcycle a couple of days later. Today, he has adjusted the way he thinks, eats and lives. “These days, life has become about quality, not quantity,” he says.

Today, Tom is in the driver’s seat in more ways than one. He cruises the countryside in his cars, sitting comfortably and getting in and out with ease. Before losing weight, he often parked illegally so he had enough room to get around the vehicle in case someone parked too close. “When you’re obese, there’s so much you do to prepare for each situation that no one ever sees. Now, I don’t have to give those things a second thought.”

How to Handle Hangovers

Don't let a hangover ruin your day. Find out how to feel good fast.
How to Handle Hangovers

The holiday season is a time of decadent eating and drinking, but consuming copious amounts of liquor can result in a hearty hangover. Try these simple solutions to make a quick comeback to the celebrations.

Five First Steps for Fast Relief

As soon as you wake up, drink two glasses of water to undo the dehydration.

Have a large glass of grapefruit, orange, or tomato juice. Juice contains the simple sugar fructose, which speeds the metabolism of alcohol.

If you drink coffee, have a cup or two as soon as possible. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor, meaning it narrows the swollen blood vessels in your head. Just be sure not to go overboard. Like alcohol, caffeine is a diuretic, and if you drink too much, you’ll become even more dehydrated.

Kudzu is a traditional Chinese remedy for alcohol poisoning, usually taken in a “morning after” tea. You can pick up kudzu extract at a health-food store. Follow the dosage directions on the package.

Nix it with Nux: the homeopathic remedy nux vomica is considered an antidote to alcohol hangovers. Dissolve 3-5 pellets of the 30C potency on the tongue every four hours.

Quick Comeback Snacks

Once you overcome the queasiness, fix yourself a nice bowl of hot chicken soup or bouillon. Either one will help replace the salt and potassium that your body loses when you’ve been drinking.

A banana milk shake is another good way to replace potassium and other nutrients lost during a night of heavy drinking. Combine a half-cup milk with a banana and two teaspoons of honey. Whirl it all in a blender, and drink up..

If you feel well enough, eat a light meal munch on some fresh fruit, and crackers with honey. Fruit and honey are good sources of fructose. Save the bacon and sausage for another day.

Get Moving

Although your instinct might be to stay in bed, you’re better off if you can take a brisk walk or go for a run. That will boost your production of endorphins, your body’s natural painkillers. Heavy drinking can lower endorphin levels.

Cooking Help for the Single Guy

Sometimes you can spend all day cooking a meal that would be the envy of any great chef just to have it ruined by something as small as the gravy being too thin or the soup too salty. There are tricks around the most common of kitchen gaffs that might help you salvage your meal and your pride.

Salty Soup

You've just made some of the best chicken soup on the face of the earth, but it still needs something. So you add a little salt and take a taste. No, that was definitely not it. Now your soup tastes like a portion of Utah real estate and you have to start over. 'Not really. Peel a good sized potato and add it to the pot. The potato will absorb a lot of the excess salt. This works on 90% of the soups you will ever make, except—ironically—on potato soup.

Too Much Heat

Your eyes are watering and the water you just drank is now steam coming out of your ears. You might have added too much spice... Try adding some hot water and a potato—this might help a bit. If you're making chili or a soup of some sort, try adding more of the other ingredients to help distribute some of the heat. That failing, put "Dante's Peak" on the TV and throw a volcano themed party.

Burned One Too Many Times

Every kitchen should own a wooden spoon. It is critical to have one on hand for soups and sauces. Not only will the wood not scratch the surface of the pots and pans you paid too much money for, but it will save your bacon if the game goes into overtime and you don't stir as often as you should have. The trick to saving burned gravy, soup, etc. is to not scrape up the burned bits. Your gravy is only burned on the bottom. Pour it ever so gently into another pan using the wooden spoon to keep out the caked-on bits in the pan you are pouring from. Add more of whichever liquid the recipe calls for (milk, broth, etc.). Hopefully this will help out. You should have recorded the game or paused the DVR while you were cooking.

Too Thin?

To solve the age-old question of what to do with thin sauce... Conventional wisdom states to either keep cooking it until it thickens (condenses) or to add a little flour. Both take a little more skill than it sounds. What's easier and gets the same result? Pour a glass of cold water and add 2 - 3 heaping spoonfuls of cornstarch. The mixture will have the look of watered down skim milk, but have the magic of Aladdin's lamp. Add a little at a time and allow the cornstarch/water mixture time to heat up. As it heats, it will thicken. Basically, the cornstarch will take on the flavors you are mixing it with, but don't overdo it.

These four tips should help you right along and save you from having to make the same meals over and over again. Remember, these are just like any other kitchen skill, time and practice will perfect these kitchen maneuvers, so be patient. Bon Appetite.

IMPORTANT NEWS FROM SANTA

Important News
From Santa
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DURACELL BATTERIES has come to the aid of THE ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE and THE TORONTO SANTA CLAUS PARADE in a big way. On November 21st the historic Parade held a toy drive called "TOYS FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE NORTH" as part of the annual Parade on the streets of Toronto. Arrangements were made with Thomson Transport to deliver over 4000 toys (10 skids) to Ottawa where FIRSTAIR airline took them to Canada’s North. In the North, the toys were distributed by members of the RCMP to every village, outpost and town in the three territories at the top of Canada.
In these days of battery driven toys and during the busy holiday season, the need for batteries went unnoted on Santa’s list. In most of the destinations of the toys, batteries are not readily accessible, especially on Christmas day. DURACELL CANADA, a sponsor of the Parade saw the toy drive and reminded Santa of the need for batteries. Unfortunately it was too late and the shipment donated by Thomson and FIRST AIR sent the toys to the North without batteries.
Arrangements have been made however that will see DURACELL delivering a large consignment of batteries to the RCMP at Ottawa Airport on Wednesday December 15th. There, an RCMP Plane will take the batteries to the North for distribution. SANTA CLAUS, RCMP Supt. Kevin Harrison and a representative from DURACELL will meet the plane for loading on Wednesday Morning, 9am, at RCMP Hanger, 2000 Research Road, Ottawa, Ontario, K1V 9B4.
This is the first year that "TOYS FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE NORTH" has been in operation but THE SANTA CLAUS PARADE and the ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE are planning to make it an annual event.
Starting next year, DURACELL BATTERIES will be on Santa’s list!
