Obesity – From Bad to Worse

Obesity – From Bad to Worse

Just as I thought that things could not get any worse and obesity, the number health problem in American today, is getting (somewhat) under control, a new study came out which burst my bubble.
According to Organization for Economics and Development, 3 out of 4 Americans are expected to become obese by 2020. Franco Sassi, senior health economist for OECD, who wrote the report said:
“Food is much cheaper than in the past, in particular food that is not particularly healthy, and people are changing their lifestyles, they have less time to prepare meals and are eating out more in restaurants..”
Nothing new really.
If there’s truth in that study, then in 9 years, 75% of Americans will be obese. Let’s think for a minute what the consequences of these numbers are:
1.  We will pay more for healthcare – If you thought you are paying too much for our healthcare system now, can you imagine what it will be in ten years?
2. We will die sooner – The life span of an obese person is, give or take, 8-10 years LESS of a normal-weight person
3. We’ll damage the environment even further – because when we weigh more, it takes more fuel to keep us going, the environment pays.
4. We harm our children – rates of children obesity and diabetes will increase as well.
Sad isn’t it?
