Planting depth is one of the biggest reasons seeds fail. Too deep = they run out of energy. Too shallow = they dry out. Quick rule of thumb: plant seeds about 2–3x as deep as the seed is wide.
• Press soil gently after sowing so seeds touch moisture
• Keep the surface consistently damp until sprouting (mist, don’t flood) 
• Tiny seeds like lettuce and basil often do best barely covered
If your seedlings pop up with seed coats stuck, humidity is usually the fix
